Articling Student Comments and Observations

What Our Students Say

David Cooper, articling term 2024-2025

“From my experience as an articling student, there is no better place to start your legal journey than KRMC. KRMC excels in providing students with what they need, opportunity, guidance and responsibility.  To do that KRMC prioritizes providing students with meaningful work and relevant legal experience which allows students to develop their legal skills quickly.  Students are provided with the perfect balance of guidance and responsibility, because of this KRMC allows students to truly participate in the firm, not just observe it.  At KRMC teamwork is paramount, you will have the privilege to work with extremely talented, experienced and insightful mentors who bring with them a wide wealth of knowledge on complex fields of law. These mentors deeply care about the development and growth of their students and as a student you can expect to benefit greatly from this network. My experience as a student, both summering and articling at KRMC has been overwhelmingly positive and the entire excellent team at KRMC ensures that all students come away with worthwhile education and a greater understanding of the law. From my time as a student, I have learnt that there is no better feeling than winning a trial, except, maybe, getting to share that win with the people who guided and mentored you through the whole process. At KRMC you don’t get to just watch legal minds at work, you get to be one.”

Jonathan Plender, articling term 2023-2024

“As an articling student at KRMC in the general stream, I was afforded the unique opportunity to take carriage of matters at an early stage. My advocacy skills improved greatly in a short period of time as I was leading hearings, examinations and settlement conferences shortly after joining. Expect to be immersed in a broad practice, where you will work with a supportive team of skilled legal professionals. From lawyers to paralegals, if you have a question, someone has the answer. I was exposed to areas such as creditors’ rights, mortgage enforcement, civil fraud, and others.

By the time your articling term is over, you will have outpaced the vast majority of your peers in real litigation experience. I was amazed at how much I learned and improved my oral advocacy skills in such a short period of time. Ultimately, articling at KRMC facilitates the transition from student to lawyer in a way not many other firms do. The practical training one receives at this firm is second to none.”

Delara Jamshidi, articling term 2023-2024

“During my articles at KRMC, I had the invaluable opportunity to work closely with three lawyers, each of whom brought unique perspectives and expertise to the table. This mentorship allowed me to gain practical insights into litigation and mediation/negotiation. I drafted a variety of court documents and materials for use in mediations, further sharpening my legal drafting skills. Additionally, I was able to observe and contribute to the progression of files through the litigation process, giving me a well-rounded understanding of how files develop from start to finish.”

Maneetpal Khera, articling term 2022-2023

“My articling experience at Kronis, Rotsztain, Margles, Cappel LLP in the personal injury practice group was invaluable. I gained practical experience in various aspects of personal injury law, from client intake and case management to legal research and writing. The supportive and collaborative environment fostered my professional development, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside experienced lawyers who mentored me throughout my articling term. The firm’s commitment to excellence and client service aligns with my own values, and I am confident that the skills and knowledge I acquired will serve me well in my legal career.

I am particularly grateful for the opportunities to work directly with clients and assist in preparing for trials. These experiences allowed me to develop strong advocacy skills and a deep understanding of the emotional impact of personal injuries on individuals and families. I am confident that the knowledge and skills I gained will be shared by the incoming cohorts of articling students for the years to come.”

Cody Miller, articling term 2020-2021

“As an articling student in KRMC’s general stream, I was provided significant exposure to all manner of issues facing KRMC’s clients. I was provided the opportunity to work on the files that I found most interesting, and found a niche in issues related motor vehicle financing. This interest was fostered by the lawyers at KRMC, and thanks to this support, this line of work now forms a significant part of my practice as an associate.

KRMC treats its articling students as litigators, not future litigators. With strong mentorship, KRMC provides the opportunities for students to get on their feet experience and take ownership of their files. This ensured that I was more than prepared for my transition to an associate at KRMC.”
